How I Support Practitioners:

1. Embodiment and Self-Reflection: Grow as a practitioner by becoming more embodied and self-reflective, understanding that you can only guide others as far as you’ve gone yourself.

2. Inner Resources and Strengths: Connect with and harness your inner resources and strengths to avoid burn out and professional overwhelm.

3. Practice Management and Self-Care: Enhance your practice management skills, address issues related to transference and countertransference, handle difficult therapeutic situations and maintain effective self-care practices.

4. Identity and Boundaries: Cultivate an appreciation for the multiple, intersecting identities of each client, welcoming all aspects of their identity while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

5. Client Support: Explore diverse ways to help clients connect with their innate wisdom.

6. Shadow Work: Manage your own difficult feelings (e.g., frustration, anxiety) regarding clients, hiccups in sessions, and in business

The Importance of Supervision in the Practitioner Space:

DISCUSSION:
Discussing sessions with a supervisor and getting feedback enables the practitioner to gain an objective insight into their own performance and skills and offers an opportunity to learn and practice new skills, finding better ways to help clients.

DEBRIEF:
Debriefing is also an important element of the supervisory relationship, enabling the practitioner to look objectively at the issues raised in sessions with their clients and how they respond to them. The supervising practitioner offers a second pair of eyes, so that the practitioner can feel supported to work through what previously may have felt challenging or confusing to do so on their own.
